Uttarakhand government moved forward on Uniform Civil Code, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said – now just wait for two months

The Uttarakhand government has made some progress in the matter of implementing the Uniform Civil Code. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the report is expected from the committee in the next two months.
Uniform Civil Code will be implemented in due course:
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the implementation of Uniform Civil Code in the state is a resolution taken before the people of the state. The government is moving in this direction. The committee is expected to get its report in the next two months. The government has given the committee six months to implement it. It will be implemented in due course.
The decision to form a committee was taken on 27 May:
In Uttarakhand, the BJP had said during the assembly elections that if voted to power, it would implement a Uniform Civil Code in the state. After coming to power for the second time in a row, the Dhami government started taking steps in this direction.
On May 27, the government decided to form a committee to implement Uniform Civil Code in the state. The committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (Retd). The committee comprises Justice (Retd) Pramod Kohli, former Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand Shatrughan Singh, Vice Chancellor of Doon University Dr Surekha Dangwal, social worker Manu Gaur and member secretary Ajay Mishra.
The committee is taking steps towards making an action plan to implement
Three meetings of this committee have been held so far. Apart from amending the existing law, this committee is also studying matters related to marriage, divorce, property rights and succession. The committee is taking steps to examine inheritance, adoption, maintenance and uniform civil code as well as to prepare an action plan for its implementation.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami told the media on Tuesday that meetings of the committee are being held. The process of preparing its draft is going on. As soon as the draft is prepared after talking to all the stakeholders, after taking public dialogue and public suggestions, the state government will take further steps towards its implementation.
