Almora, Uttarakhand: Political tensions surfaced in the Someshwar Assembly constituency as Cabinet Minister and local MLA Rekha Arya received a public welcome from her supporters, while Congress workers staged a protest by waving black flags during her visit.
A public gathering was organised at the Ramlila Ground in Someshwar to honour the minister. A large number of people from different areas and organisational units of the constituency attended the event and welcomed Rekha Arya.
Addressing the gathering, the minister became emotional as she described herself as the daughter of Someshwar. She said the constituency had given her recognition and that the affection and blessings of its people had always remained her greatest strength. She also reiterated her commitment to the development of the region.
During her address, Arya spoke about her personal experiences, claiming that she had been facing difficulties since 2022. She said she decided to raise her voice when the situation crossed its limits, adding that people in the constituency were familiar with the developments.
Referring to the 2027 Assembly elections, she appealed to the people of Someshwar to continue supporting her and bless her once again.
Congress Workers Stage Protest, Wave Black Flags
Meanwhile, Congress workers from the Someshwar Block Congress Committee gathered near the venue to protest against the minister. They waved black flags and raised slogans against her.
The protesters cited allegations of a ₹210 crore scam involving the minister’s husband, Girdhari Lal Sahu, as the reason for their demonstration. Police personnel present at the spot attempted to control the protesters and prevent the situation from escalating.
A minor scuffle reportedly took place between Congress workers and the police during the protest.
The simultaneous public welcome and political demonstration kept Someshwar’s political atmosphere tense, highlighting the growing political activity in the constituency ahead of the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections.
