Red alert for heavy rain in seven districts on Friday, schools up to 12th standard closed

Monsoon rain has gained momentum across the state, on Thursday, life was affected by rain across the state, it has been raining continuously for 12 hours in Doon since 7 am, due to which the temperature of Dehradun has decreased by four degrees Celsius, in the last 12 hours, 32.3 mm rain was recorded in Dehradun, 29.4 mm in Doiwala, 19.6 mm in Mussoorie and 21.2 mm in Rishikesh. Due to the warning of heavy rain on Friday also, the District Magistrates of Nainital, Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Haridwar, Chamoli and Uttarkashi have declared holiday in all schools and Anganwadi centers up to 12th standard.

Due to the red alert for heavy to very heavy rain in seven districts including Dehradun, the District Magistrate has declared holiday in all schools and Anganwadi centers up to 12th standard in Dehradun, which brought relief to school students, but working people who travel on two-wheelers and on foot remained troubled throughout the day. Apart from Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Bageshwar, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar witnessed heavy and intermittent rains throughout the day. Due to rain throughout the day in Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts, light snowfall is taking place in high altitude areas like Badrinath and Kedarnath, Harshil, Hemkund Sahib etc. In the last 24 hours, a decrease of four degrees Celsius was recorded in the temperature of Dehradun. The maximum temperature of Dehradun was recorded four degrees below normal at 27.0 and the minimum temperature was recorded at 25.1 degrees Celsius.

Instructions to District Magistrates to remain on alert
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in seven districts including Dehradun on Friday for the second consecutive day. In view of the red alert in these districts, the State Disaster Management Authority has instructed the District Magistrates to remain on alert. Director of Meteorological Center Bikram Singh said that heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted in Dehradun, Pauri, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar for Friday. In view of this, the Disaster Management Department has instructed all departments to remain on alert and complete all preparations in time. An orange alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall has also been issued in other six districts.
