There is good news for the youth of Uttarakhand who want to become doctors. They will now get more options for admission in MBBS. Haridwar Medical College, the fifth government medical college of the state, has got recognition. The college will have admissions on 100 seats this session, out of which 85 seats are from the state quota. The state government had sent a proposal for 100 MBBS seats in Haridwar Medical College to the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the academic session 2024-2025.
The first appeal was rejected
The NMC had found some flaws in the college including the faculty. The recognition was rejected in the first appeal. However, in the second appeal, these flaws were reviewed and the medical college has been approved on the basis of new documents and presentations. It was told that currently 39 faculty members (13 professors, 7 associate professors, 19 assistant professors) and 26 senior residents / tutors are working in the college.
The state government has assured
The state government has assured that the necessary faculty and infrastructure will be completed before the current session begins. Along with this, OPD and other medical facilities will also be increased along with the already running services in the hospital.
Medical education and health services will improve
Medical Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat said that the establishment of this medical college in Haridwar will bring a major improvement in medical education and health services in Uttarakhand. With increasing seats in the state’s medical colleges, local students will get an opportunity to get high-level medical education here and health services will also expand in the state. Dhan Singh Rawat said that this initiative will significantly improve the access and quality of medical facilities in Haridwar and its surrounding areas, providing timely and better medical services to the residents of the area. The state government will ensure better availability of health services in rural and remote areas through this medical college.
