The government seems concerned in view of the demographic changes in the state. The government is preparing to run a verification campaign on a large scale regarding the speed at which the population of a particular community has increased in the hilly districts along with the plain districts. In the last 10-11 years, people of a particular community in four districts of the state including the capital Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital, not only bought land in large numbers, but their settlement has also increased at the same pace. There has been a steady increase in the population of a particular community in the border areas as well. In view of this, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed DGP Abhinav Kumar to run a verification campaign in all police station areas. The Chief Minister also gave instructions to keep an eye on people with criminal background and those coming from outside states. He also stressed on increasing patrolling in the border areas of the state and strengthening the system of night patrolling in the state. On Wednesday afternoon at around 12.30 pm, the convoy of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami left the Secretariat for his residence, but instead of going to the residence, the convoy turned towards the police headquarters. As soon as the convoy of the Chief Minister entered the police headquarters, there was a stir among the police officers and employees.
All the top officials including DGP Abhinav Kumar came out of their offices. The Chief Minister looked angry at the increasing crime against women in the state and went straight to the office of the Women Safety Helpline. He inquired about the various activities being conducted by the police to control crime against women. At the same time, he also asked about the action to be taken in serious crimes like robbery and loot. He directed for quick and strict action in incidents related to crimes against women including anarchic elements who play with law and order and disturb peace. He also gave instructions to take immediate action on cases of conversion and love jihad and to strengthen the law and order in the state. ADG Amit Kumar Sinha, V Murugeshan and AP Anshuman, Additional Secretary Home Nivedita Kukreti etc. were present on this occasion.
