Uttarakhand’s deserted villages will regain their charm, preparations for adoption; entire village will be developed as homestay cum hotel

The villages deserted due to migration in Uttarakhand will regain their charm. The government has now started working to make them lively. From the tourism point of view, there are preparations to adopt some deserted villages in the first phase as a pilot project. The entire village to be adopted will be developed as a homestay cum hotel.

According to Tourism and Panchayati Raj Minister Satpal Maharaj, some proposals have come in this regard. In view of this, all other aspects including the consent of the concerned migrants are being studied in depth. He said that in all the deserted villages that will be adopted, the buildings will be renovated in the traditional hill style, but modernity will be included inside. The pain of migration from villages can be understood from the fact that till now 1726 villages in the state have become completely deserted due to reasons like lack of education, health, livelihood, terror of wildlife, lack of basic facilities including roads. According to the report of the Migration Prevention Commission, 24 of these villages were vacated between 2018 and 2022. Not only this, there are a considerable number of villages in which the population is limited to a few. Although the government is making efforts to prevent migration, there is still a long way to go. Meanwhile, the government has also decided to bring back the beauty of deserted villages. According to Tourism and Panchayati Raj Minister Satpal Maharaj, some people have been motivated to adopt deserted villages. Our effort is to adopt such deserted villages in the first phase, from around which the Himalayas and other picturesque views are visible. The buildings of the entire village to be adopted will be renovated in the hilly style. All the buildings will be developed as home stay cum hotels.
