The matter of Upanal employees is now handed over to the law department, the cost of giving equal work-equal pay is also being calculated

After not getting relief from the Supreme Court in the case of Upanal (Uttarakhand Ex-Serviceman Welfare Corporation Limited) employees, now Sainik Welfare has started taking legal opinion in this matter. Only after this it will be seen whether a review petition should be filed on this matter or not. It is also being studied that if Upanal employees have to be given equal pay for equal work, then how much will it cost. At present, more than 25 thousand personnel are deployed in various departments through Upanal in the state. These personnel are giving their services in relation to the vacant posts from fourth class to first class. The government has fixed the pay scale for them, which is given to them through Upanal. Upanal was formed by the government in the year 2004. Since then, deployment of personnel in government departments has started through it. In the year 2018, the High Court, while hearing a petition, directed to give equal pay for equal work to the petitioner Upanal employees and regularize them. The state government approached the Supreme Court against this petition.

However, the Supreme Court rejected the government’s petition, due to which the decision of the High Court has become effective. After this order, the department came into action and meetings were also held to find a solution to this, but due to lack of written order, the file could not be proceeded further in this matter. The government received the written order of the Supreme Court on Saturday.

In such a situation, this order has been sent to the Law Department. It is being seen where the advocacy fell short. Also, it is being considered whether a review petition can be filed on this subject. Legal advice has been sought on this. Also, the Sainik Welfare Department is now also collecting data of personnel posted in all departments so that it can be seen how much it will cost to pay equal pay for equal work. Secretary Sainik Welfare Deependra Chaudhary says that legal opinion is being taken in this matter right now. Any decision will be taken only after this.
