Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been in favor of implementing strong land law in the state. On his initiative, a high-level committee was constituted under the chairmanship of former Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar to test the current land law. The committee submitted its report to the government on September 5, 2022. The committee raised questions on the large-scale purchase and sale of land in the districts. The report said that the land taken for industrial purposes has been used for other purposes. Chief Minister Dhami constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Radha Raturi to study the report of Subhash Kumar Committee and consider making a strong land law. The committee is deliberating on the aspects related to procedural amendments regarding permission to purchase land by the District Magistrate at the district level for agricultural and horticultural purposes and strengthening the current land law. Apart from this, the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted under the chairmanship of Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal is also studying the report of the Subhash Kumar Committee.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee will also prepare a report on the facts of Class-III and Class-IV land cases in the state. Several meetings of both these committees have been held so far. Recently, in the meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee, instructions were given to send necessary information to the districts soon. Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal has also asked to convene a meeting of the Sub-Committee soon. It is believed that the Cabinet Sub-Committee and the Chief Secretary Committee may have one more meeting each in the next few days. Both the committees will soon finalize their reports.
