CM Dhami honored the families of martyrs, increasing the ex-gratia amount from ₹10 lakh to ₹50 lakh.

At the Martyrs’ Honor Ceremony held on Sunday at the parade ground of the Garhwal Rifles Regiment, the soldiers’ workplace, the Chief Minister honored the families of 71 martyrs by presenting them with shawls and copper plates. At the Martyrs’ Honor Ceremony, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Uttarakhand is a land of heroes. Countless tales of the valor of valiant soldiers resonate here. It is the government’s responsibility to wipe the tears of the families of martyrs and stand with them in times of crisis. He salutes the Garhwal Rifles, the home of the brave. Referring to the beneficial schemes run by the central and state governments for the welfare of veterans, brave women, and the families of martyrs, he said that the ex-gratia amount given to the families of martyrs has been increased from ₹10 lakh to ₹50 lakh. An assistance of ₹10,000 is provided for the last rites of the martyr. Soldiers are being given a 25 percent exemption on stamp duty on land purchases. Under the scheme for merging families of martyrs into government service, 28 families have already been appointed. The process is underway for 13 cases. Military Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi stated that the soil from the courtyards of 1,734 martyrs in the state was to be brought to the Military Shrine, but 39 were left out. Meanwhile, 32 other soldiers also sacrificed their lives for the country. Before the inauguration, the soil from the courtyards of the remaining martyrs will be brought to the Military Shrine. The fifth Dham, the Military Shrine, will be inaugurated soon under the patronage of Chief Minister Dhami.
BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt stated that the Garhwal Rifles has an unparalleled war history. Its soldiers risked their lives to protect the border. MLA Dilip Rawat stated that the Garhwal Rifles trains and nurtures brave soldiers for national service. To immortalize the martyrdom of the soldiers, he demanded to name government establishments, roads and hospitals in Lansdowne assembly constituency after the martyrs.
