Uttarakhand’s health services are going to get a big boost. The state has got 220 new medical officers. Uttarakhand Medical Service Selection Board declared the result of the medical officer recruitment examination on Tuesday. The selected doctors will soon be posted in hilly and remote areas. On February 27, the selection board had issued a notification for 276 vacant posts of medical officer (backlog) under the Uttarakhand Provincial Medical and Health Services cadre. After this, interviews were conducted from 7 to 20 May. Now the selection list of a total of 220 eligible candidates has been released. According to the board’s secretary Pradeep Joshi, the posts have been postponed as per rules due to non-availability of eligible candidates in some reserved categories. These include 19 posts of unreserved category Divyangjan sub-category, 9 posts of Scheduled Caste Divyangjan sub-category, 1 post of Scheduled Tribe Divyangjan sub-category, 2 posts of Other Backward Class Divyangjan sub-category and 4 posts of Economically Weaker Section Divyangjan sub-category. Apart from this, no eligible candidate was found for 17 posts of State Agitator or their dependents under Scheduled Caste category, 1 post of Scheduled Caste State Agitator dependent and 3 posts of Other Backward Class. Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat has congratulated all the selected doctors and said that their deployment will strengthen health services in the remote areas of the state. He said that the aim of the government is to provide quality health services to the last village.
