Warning of heavy rain and snowfall for the next two days, chances of intense showers with thunder in Dehradun

With the activation of fresh western disturbance in Uttarakhand, the mood of the weather has started changing from the mountains to the plains. Snowfall has started on the peaks, while light rain is also occurring in the lower areas. However, bright sunshine remained in Doon during the day. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain and snowfall in entire Uttarakhand including Doon on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, a yellow alert has been issued regarding heavy snowfall in the high altitude areas and moderate to intense rainfall in the lower areas. At the same time, an orange alert has been issued regarding rain and snowfall in most areas of the state on Friday.

On Wednesday, clouds kept hovering in the hilly districts of Uttarakhand since morning. There has been light snowfall on the peaks around Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri-Yamunotri, Hemkund Sahib. Apart from this, drizzle continued in the surrounding lower areas. Due to which the mercury in the mountains dropped and the chill increased. After a light drizzle in the morning in Dehradun, the weather cleared up and the sun shone brightly throughout the day. However, partial clouds started hovering again in the evening. The maximum temperature in Doon crossed 29 degrees Celsius, which is the highest so far this year. Most areas of the state may remain cloudy for the next two days.

Yellow alert issued

According to Bikram Singh, Director of Meteorological Center, light to moderate rain and snowfall may occur on Thursday in most areas of Dehradun and Uttarkashi, some places in Tehri, Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts. There are chances of light rain at some places in Haridwar, Pauri, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Nainital and Almora.
