Uttarakhand Wildlife Sanctuary

There are a total of 7 wildlife sanctuaries in Uttarakhand.

  1. Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary

Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over 957 sq km area in the district of Chamoli and Rudraprayag. It was established in 1972, mainly due to the presence of brown bears, musk deer, snow leopard, scarf, cockroach, wild boar etc. It is found in Uttarakhand Wildlife is the largest area.

  1. Askot Wildlife Sanctuary

Askot Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area of 600 sq km in the district Pithoragarh, it was established in 1986, the Askot Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for musk deer.



  1. Govind Wildlife Sanctuary

Govind Wildlife Sanctuary spreads 485 sq km in the district of Uttarkashi, it was established in 1955, here mainly animals like brown bears, musk deer, snow leopard, trick, crabs, wild boar, wild cat etc.

  1. Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary

Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over 301 sq km area in Pauri Garhwal, it was established in 1987, here mainly elephants, lions, scales, cucumber, wild boar, but animals, horses, pythons etc are found.

  1. Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary

Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary  is spread over an area of 47 sq km in Almora district. It was established in 1988, mainly black bear, ghurl, kakad, wild boar, wild cat, etc. animals are found here.

  1. Mussoorie Wildlife Sanctuary

Mussoorie wildlife is spread over 11 sq km area in the district of Dehradun, it was established in 1993, mainly on the face of black bears, langur, monkey, scarf, cockroach, wild boar etc.

  1. Nandhaur Wildlife Sanctuary

Nandhor Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area of 270 sq km in the districts of Nainital and Champawat. It was established in 2012, mainly bears, tigers, langurs etc. are found here.
