Uttarakhand team declared for Hockey India Championship, Haridwar dominates

The Uttarakhand team selected for the 15th Hockey India Senior Men’s National Championship to be held from 4 to 15 April in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, includes the maximum of five players from Haridwar. Three players each from Udham Singh Nagar and Almora districts and players from sports colleges including Dehradun, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar have also been selected in the Uttarakhand team. Six players selected in the Uttarakhand team have previously represented Uttarakhand in national level competitions, while many players playing in the junior category have also got a chance to play with the senior team this time.

40 players participated
40 players from various districts and sports colleges of Uttarakhand participated in the selection trials held at Indira Gandhi International Sports Stadium in Gaulapar, Haldwani on Tuesday. The 18-member team of Uttarakhand has been selected on the basis of excellent performance in the selection trials. Vishal (Haridwar), Rupin (Haridwar), Rupesh (Haridwar), Rahul (Sports College), Ashu Kumar (Haridwar) and Deepanshu (Udham Singh Nagar), who have represented Uttarakhand in national level hockey competitions and national games, have been included in the team again on the basis of their excellent performance in the selection trials.

Apart from this, Hrithik Saini (Kashipur), Akshat Rawat (Kotdwar), Mohd. Saheb (Dehradun), Babi (Kashipur), Deepak Fartyal (Almora), Hrithik Raj (Almora), Amit Sirola (Haridwar), Gaurav Mehra (Almora), Vivek Uprari (Pithoragarh), Man Singh Danu (Bageshwar), Vivek Sharma and Raees Ahmed have been selected. The selectors included Deputy Director Sports Rashika Siddiqui, Deputy Sports Officer Varun Belwal, former Chief Coach of Indian Air Force Pushkar Singh Rawat, International Hockey Player Harish Bhakuni and former Chief Coach of Hockey Virendra Parihar.
