Uttarakhand Cabinet approves Uniform Civil Code rules, may be implemented from January 26

Taking a step towards implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) law in the state, the cabinet has approved the rules of the code. It has been clarified in the rules that it will be mandatory for all the persons living in live-in to register within one month of the implementation of the code.
This registration will be done only in front of the registrar. Late fee will be charged for not registering by the prescribed date. It will be mandatory to register marriages that took place after 26 March 2010. A time limit of six months has been fixed for this. Those who have registered themselves will also have to inform about it on the portal.
The government has also appointed separate registrars and sub-registrars at the Panchayat, Nagar Palika and Municipal Corporation level for all types of registration. In the cabinet meeting held in the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday, after discussing the rules of the Uniform Civil Code, it was approved.

Due to implementation of Model Code of Conduct for civic elections, media was not briefed about the decisions of the cabinet. Also, the cabinet has authorized the Chief Minister to fix the date for implementation of Uniform Civil Code. There is a possibility that it can be implemented in the state from 26th January. This 92-page manual describes the arrangement for registration of marriage, divorce, right of inheritance, live-in relationship and termination of live-in relationship of all the citizens of the state. Uttarakhand will be the first state in the country to implement Uniform Civil Code after independence.

Where there is no internet facility, CHC agents will provide door-to-door facility.

You can register on the basis of Aadhar card.

Complaints can also be made through the portal.

60 days time fixed for all types of information regarding divorce.

Those living in live-in will have to compulsorily register within one month.

Deputy Registrar and Registrar deployed at Panchayat, Municipality and Corporation level.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that with the guidance and inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we had promised the people to implement the Uniform Civil Code in the 2022 assembly elections. Its rules have been approved. The date of its implementation will be announced soon. The Ganga of Uniform Civil Code will leave Uttarakhand and go to the whole country.
