The players of the state performed brilliantly in the National Games held in Uttarakhand. The players have fulfilled their responsibility by bringing Uttarakhand to the seventh position in the medal tally. Now it is the turn of the government. The government has to fulfill the promise made to these players before the start of the National Games. This promise is to give double the prize money to the medal winners. Uttarakhand has won a total of 103 medals in the National Games. These include 24 gold, 35 silver and 44 bronze medals. The government has announced to give Rs 12 lakh for gold medal, Rs 8 lakh for silver medal and Rs 6 lakh for bronze medal. In this regard, the government will give Rs 8.32 crore to the players who increase the pride of the state.
The prize money sanctioned for medal winners was doubled
Before the start of the National Games in Uttarakhand, the state government had announced to double the prize money sanctioned for medal winners to encourage the players. Its government order has also been issued. The government’s goal from the beginning was to be included in the top 10 states in the National Games.
In this sequence, this step was taken to encourage the players. Earlier in the sports policy, the government has made arrangements to take medal winning players in government service. This step of the government definitely inspired the players to do better. Its result was clearly visible in the form of excellent performance in the medal tally.
Record breaking performance in terms of medals
Uttarakhand gave its best performance in the history of National Games and succeeded in getting the gold medal till the last day. There were some names among the players who gave a record breaking performance in terms of medals. These include Saksham Singh and Mamta Khati, who won three gold medals each in the pentathlon competition. Ankita Dhyani in athletics and P Sonia in kayaking won two gold medals each. Many players won more than one medal in badminton and athletics.
