Taking a big decision in the interest of journalists, Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has approved financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the dependents of 18 deceased journalists. Some of these journalists have died of Covid infection. Chief Minister Rawat has taken this decision on the recommendation of the committee constituted to provide financial assistance to the disaster-hit journalists and their dependents under the Journalists Welfare Fund. The Chief Minister is the chairman of this committee. After the formation of the Journalists Welfare Fund, this one-time biggest assistance amount is 90 lakh rupees.


Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat said that the state government has always been aware of the interests of journalists. The state government stands with the families of journalists who died during the Covid period. He said that an amount of five lakh rupees each has been sanctioned to the dependents of 18 deceased journalists from the Journalists Welfare Fund. Director General Information has been instructed that in cases where the application is not received or the records are not complete, all the formalities should be completed at the earliest for grant of financial assistance.

Director General Information Ranbir Singh Chouhan informed that the meeting of the committee constituted for Journalists Welfare Fund was convened on June 01, 2021, on which approval has been given by the Chief Minister today. The Director General said that 18 proposals had come before the committee from all over the state, for which financial assistance has been recommended by the committee. Eight proposals had also come before the committee, whose records were not found complete. For this, instructions were given to all the District Information Officers to complete the incomplete applications and send them to the headquarters within 15 days, so that financial assistance can be considered in the next meeting.
Director General Information informed that on the instructions of Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat, welfare schemes are being operated in the interest of journalists. Non-official members were also present in this meeting, with whose consent financial assistance has been approved.
Representatives of journalist organizations Mrs. Bina Upadhyay, Yogesh Bhatt, Trilok Chandra Bhatt were present in the meeting as non-official members, while Mr. Ramesh Pahari participated in the meeting through virtual/phone. Additional Director Dr. Anil Chandola, Deputy Director Nitin Upadhyay etc. were present on this occasion.
