Snowfall and rain in Uttarakhand led to a sharp drop in temperatures, with peaks covered in snow, while temperatures plummeted in lower areas.

Rain and snowfall continued for the second consecutive day in Uttarakhand. All peaks, including Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Hemkund Sahib, are now covered in snow. Meanwhile, drizzle in the lower regions has brought down temperatures. In Dehradun alone, temperatures have dropped by about eight degrees Celsius in the past two days. Clearer weather is expected in most parts of the state starting today. Partly cloudy skies are expected in the mountainous regions, with light rain possible at some places. Heavy snowfall has stranded more than 40 tourists and guides on the Satopanth trek in Chamoli, while three tourists stranded on the Vasudhara trek have been rescued. Furthermore, due to the GSI’s alert of a massive landslide in the district, travel to the higher Himalayan regions, including Hemkund Sahib and the Valley of Flowers, was suspended on Tuesday. Consequently, more than 1,500 people were stranded at various locations. On Tuesday, drizzle continued in Dehradun and surrounding areas since morning. However, the clouds cleared in the afternoon, and the sun shone. However, temperatures remained four degrees below normal. Snow fell for the second consecutive day on the high peaks in Chamoli, Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh districts, covering the peaks with a blanket of white. Light snowfall on the Gangotri and Yamunotri peaks and rain in the lower regions disrupted normal life. Severe cold has set in in the higher elevations. Rain also affected life in some areas of Kumaon. Traffic was disrupted for four to five hours in some areas due to debris on roads. The Pindari Glacier, Kafni Glacier, and the higher elevations of Kapkot’s Sunderdunga Valley received the season’s first snowfall. According to the Meteorological Center, the mountainous regions will be partly cloudy today, with light rain accompanied by thunderstorms possible at some places. The weather is expected to remain dry in the plains. After this, the weather in the state may remain dry for the next few days and there is a possibility of drop in minimum temperature.
