The Cabinet has approved granting municipal corporation status to Almora and Pithoragarh municipal councils in their original form. As the population of both the bodies is less than one lakh, the Urban Development Department had put forward this proposal with a view to their upgradation. With Almora and Pithoragarh becoming municipal corporations, the number of municipal corporations in Kumaon division has now increased to five. Other corporations there include Rudrapur, Haldwani and Kashipur. The municipal corporations of Garhwal division are Dehradun, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Kotdwar, Haridwar and Roorkee.
Boundary extension of Ramnagar also approved
The Cabinet has also approved the boundary extension of Municipal Council Ramnagar. It proposes to include the areas around Ramnagar. Apart from this, it has also approved excluding the area of Govind Ballabh Pant University from the boundary of Municipal Council Nagla.
Approval of proposal to separate Semigwad village area
The reason is that the area of the university has been notified separately. Meanwhile, the cabinet has approved the proposal to separate Semigwad village area from the boundary of Nagar Palika Parishad Karnaprayag under Garhwal region. The cabinet also approved the proposal to upgrade Nagar Palika Parishad Doiwala of Dehradun district from category three to category one.
