Nine districts in Uttarakhand severely affected by disaster; Congress demands Rs. 20,000 crore from the central government.

Uttarakhand Congress president Karan Mahra stated that nine districts in the state have been severely damaged by the disaster. Villagers in these districts are living in extremely difficult conditions. The encroachment that flourished under the government’s patronage in Dehradun is now taking a heavy toll on innocent lives. The rivers and streams in Dehradun are choked with encroachments. The devastation caused by heavy rains in the Sahastradhara area is a direct result of this. Targeting both the state and central governments, he said that losses in the state have exceeded Rs. 20,000 crore, while the central government has announced relief of only Rs. 1,200 crore for Uttarakhand. Speaking to reporters at the Congress office on Saturday, Karan Mahra said that the disaster in Dehradun and Nandnagari in Chamoli occurred after the central government’s relief announcement. Therefore, the central government should provide Uttarakhand with Rs. 20,000 crore in relief funds.
