Misusing of Pm and President Images may be Punishable, May be Charged Fine

Misuse of the photo of the Prime Minister and the President can now be imprisoned for up to six months. The Central Government, conscious of the use of PM Narendra Modi’s picture in the advertisement of private companies, is going to bring the provision of punishment in the symbol and name law-1950 for the first time. Also, the amount of the fine will be increased one thousand times to five lakhs. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has drafted an amendment to the seven-decade-old law. The Law Ministry has given its consent on this. After taking public opinion, the draft will be sent to the Union Cabinet. The government will try to get this law passed in the winter session of Parliament itself.

In fact, in recent years, the controversy over the use of pictures of PM Narendra Modi in advertisements had arisen. At that time, the government had taken action against two big companies of the country putting the PM’s picture in advertisements. However, a change was made in the law in view of the impact of nominal economic penalty. For the first time in the draft, the fine has been fixed at Rs 1 lakh for violation. There is a provision for a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh on more than one mistake. Repeated violations of the law can lead to imprisonment of up to 3 to 6 months. Let us tell you that the Law of Emblems and Names is the guardian of national symbols and objects of historical importance, along with the prestige of persons sitting in positions like the Prime Minister and the President. The purpose of this law is to prevent their commercial use.
