Local products of Uttarakhand will get global recognition, names of 18 products included in the list of GI tag.

In order to give global recognition to the local products of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, 18 products here are going to get GI (Geographical Indication) tag. Its certificates will be given in the GI Mahotsav to be held in Dehradun from 17 to 21 November under the aegis of the GI Registry Department of the Union Ministry for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade. Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Ganesh Joshi held discussions with departmental officials including former advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Bhaskar Khulbe on Monday regarding the preparations for the festival. He asked the officials to work in mutual coordination regarding the festival.

These products will get GI tag
Some time back, the government has started promoting local products Uttarakhand Red Rice, Berinag Tea, Gahath, Manduva, Jhangora, Burans Sarbat, Kala Bhatt, Amaranth (Ramdana), Pahadi Toor Dal, Malta, Almora Lakhori Chilli, Ramnagar-Nainital Litchi, Ramgarh-Nainital Peach. Also applied to get GI tag on five handicraft products. These were tested at the level of the Union Ministry for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade and in May this year, officials of the Ministry went to various districts and held hearings. These products were found to meet the standards set.

Products will get international recognition
According to Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Ganesh Joshi, GI tag certificates for these products will be provided to the state by the Central Government in the GI Mahotsav to be held in Dehradun from 17 to 21 November. With this, the number of GI tagged products in the state will increase to 27. This will give the products here international recognition.

There will be competitions among students
Minister Joshi held a meeting on Monday regarding the preparations for the GI Mahotsav. He informed that agricultural universities will also be included in the festival. There will be competitions among students related to GI tag and a rally will also be taken out. There will be participation of other departments including agriculture, horticulture, NABARD, industry, culture, cooperation, rural development, tourism in the festival. Former advisor to the Prime Minister Bhaskar Khulbe, Agriculture Secretary Deependra Kumar Chaudhary, Additional Secretary Ranveer Singh Chauhan, General Manager of NABARD Regional Office Suman Kumar, Managing Director of Organic Products Council Vinay Kumar, GMVN Managing Director Vinod Goswami and other officials were present in the meeting. .
