Dry day: Liquor will not be available in these areas of Uttarakhand, narcotics worth Rs 14.29 crore seized in raid

The sale of liquor will be banned in the municipal areas from the morning of January 22, 24 hours before the voting for the municipal elections starting at 8 am on January 23. Liquor shops will open only after the end of voting. The State Election Commission has issued orders to all the District Election Officers in this regard. According to the guidelines issued by the Commission, liquor, cannabis and other narcotics will not be sold within a radius of eight kilometers of the Municipal Corporation and Municipal Councils from 24 hours before the start of voting till the end of voting. Similarly, this ban has also been implemented in the rural areas falling under the radius of four kilometers in the Nagar Panchayat areas. On the other hand, a campaign is going on to curb illegal liquor and narcotics during the municipal elections. Under this, liquor and narcotics worth Rs 14.29 crore have been seized by the police and excise department across the state so far.

The noise of civic elections will stop this evening

The noise of the election campaign will stop at 5 pm on Tuesday in view of the civic elections to be held on January 23. State Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar said that preparations have almost been completed in all the districts for fair and peaceful voting. Elections are being held in 100 civic bodies in the state. These include 11 municipal corporations, 43 municipal councils and 46 nagar panchayats. In the voting to be held on January 23, 30.29 lakh voters will elect the urban government. The noise of election campaign in urban areas will also stop at 5 pm on Tuesday, 48 hours before the voting. Not only this, political parties and candidates trying their luck in the elections and their supporters have also focused on knocking door to door.

Vehicles will be provided to the disabled

In the civic elections, the commission will provide vehicles to those disabled voters who are not only disabled but also do not have their own vehicle. The number of disabled voters in the civic bodies is 10894. According to the State Election Commissioner, disabled people will be allowed to use their own vehicles to go to the polling booth for voting. If a disabled voter does not have a vehicle and is unable to go to the polling booth, the District Election Officer will ensure the arrangement of a vehicle for him.
