Haridwar-Rishikesh alert due to rising rivers, Badri-Kedarnath highway closed; passengers stranded

Rivers and streams are in spate due to intermittent rain in the mountains since late Thursday night. The water level of river Ganga in Haridwar and Rishikesh is close to the danger mark.

Amid the alert of heavy rain, schools in Dehradun, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar have been closed on Saturday as well. In Chamoli district, two vehicles have been buried under debris falling from the hill. No casualties have been reported. An orange alert for heavy rain has been issued in some areas of Dehradun and Bageshwar districts on Saturday. Apart from this, a yellow alert has been issued for several rounds of heavy rain in some places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts.

Badrinath-Kedarnath highway closed, hundreds of passengers stranded

The rain that was going on since night in Chamoli stopped on Saturday morning. The Badrinath highway is closed in Gulbakoti. The work of opening the road is going on. Joshimath-Niti-Malari highway has been blocked for traffic due to debris near Tamak Nala.

Gaurikund highway blocked in Sonprayag, large number of passengers stopped

Rudraprayag. The highway has been blocked near the Suttle Seva bridge, about one kilometer ahead of Sonprayag towards Gaurikund, due to which a large number of passengers going to Kedarnath are stranded. More than 1000 passengers have stopped in Sonprayag, while passengers towards Gaurikund have also been stopped at safe places.

Bhagirathi in spate in Gangotri

Uttarkashi. The water level of Bhagirathi has increased in Gangotri. The spate of Bhagirathi river in Gangotri is reaching above the ghats. The water level of Bhagirathi is reaching up to the aarti place Bhagirath Shila in Gangotri. The priests have removed the donation letters and other items. Let us tell you that on Friday Yamuna river had overflown in Yamunotri Dham and caused devastation.

Delhi Yamunotri NH closed near Mussoorie Band

Mussoorie Chakrata NH 707A remained closed the whole night in Saanji Dhang ahead of Campti Fall and near Jeevan Ashram. On Saturday morning JCB cleared the debris and opened the road. NH 507, Delhi Yamunotri NH is still closed near Mussoorie Band, two JCBs are engaged in removing the debris. Mussoorie Dehradun main road is open.

Newborn dies due to road closure

Vikasnagar. Due to road closure, a newborn did not get timely treatment and died. The newborn was born in CHC Sahiya. Due to absence of pediatrician in the hospital, doctors asked to show the child to some pediatrician. It was raining, emergency service 108 was also not available. So the child’s father left to take the child and the mother to Vikasnagar. Traffic was closed due to heavy landslide near Jajrad hill on Kalsi Chakrata motor road. The child died due to not getting timely treatment.

Traffic halted on 19 motor roads in Jaunsar and Pachhadun

Due to landslide debris, 19 motor roads of Jaunsar Bawar and Pachhadun were closed. This also includes Delhi Yamunotri National Highway, which was closed again for the second day near Lakhwar Band. The closed roads include one motor road of NN Dehradun section, seven of PWD Sahia, seven of PMGSY, three of PWD Chakrata, one motor road of PWD Provincial section.

Holiday in schools up to 12th today in view of heavy rain

In view of the warning of lightning and heavy to very heavy rain in Dehradun district on Saturday also by the Meteorological Department, District Magistrate Sonika has declared holiday on Saturday in all schools and Anganwadi centers from 1st to 12th. Government, non-government and private schools will have to follow the orders issued. Due to heavy rains, holiday was declared in Dehradun schools on Friday as well.

Alaknanda-Mandakini became fierce
Due to continuous rains in the mountains, Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers flowing in Rudraprayag district are flowing in their fierce form.
