Uttarakhand, which is drowning in the whirlpool of political instability, needed such a young face, who is winnable and takes every step forward thoughtfully with a sense of stability. Along with this, it also speeds up infrastructure development and gives a solid basis of hope to the aspirations of the people by removing the socio-economic inequality growing in geographical disparities. After completing a four-year term, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami molded himself to these expectations of the common people and the BJP and also showed the spirit to deal with the challenges. Entering the fifth year, Chief Minister Dhami reiterated his resolve to start the medical colleges under construction in Pithoragarh and Rudrapur soon to improve health services. Along with this, to improve the financial condition of the state, the proposal to create a strong mechanism of tax collection with the help of Artificial Intelligence was given the green signal. When Pushkar Singh Dhami started his first term as Chief Minister on July 4, 2021, two Chief Ministers had already been changed in the then BJP government. Amidst the challenge of assembly elections just six-seven months later, the eyes of political analysts were naturally fixed on how the young face would be able to establish his place among the seniors and experienced leaders. Dhami proved himself to be true to the expectations of the party high command. When the BJP formed the government for the second consecutive time with a massive majority in the year 2022, the party did not hesitate to keep faith in the young face by re-appointing Dhami to the post of Chief Minister.
Dhami left no stone unturned to establish himself as the trusted face of the party and the public in the brief period before the elections and then in his new tenure of three and a quarter years. The result was that Dhami got the achievement of being the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for the maximum four years after former Chief Minister late Narayan Dutt Tiwari. In the new term, Dhami has given priority to the implementation of the promises made in the elections. Uttarakhand became the first state after independence to implement the Uniform Civil Code. Along with dealing with the rapid change in demographics, the Dhami government did not hesitate to make strict anti-cheating laws, conversions, and strict laws to deal with rioters to restore the purity of recruitment examinations. The Dhami government raised more funds in the budget for social security schemes to support the weak and the deprived and to uplift the poor, and also showed the courage to take tough measures to increase the tax resources of the state. There is not much time left for the resolution to double the size of the economy in five years to be fulfilled.
If the Dhami government’s efforts were successful in taking advantage of the double engine on infrastructure development and maintaining the trust of the Modi government at the Center, then the way was cleared for ambitious schemes like Jamrani Dam, Song Dam, Lakhwar-Vyasi Hydroelectric Project.
