In the next phase of the three-tier panchayat elections, the election of District Panchayat President and Block Pramukh will be held on 14th August. The State Election Commission issued the election notification on Thursday. With this notification, the code of conduct has come into force in 12 districts of the state, which will end as soon as the counting of votes is completed. Its notification has been issued from the level of all the District Magistrates on Thursday itself. Under this, voting will be held for the posts of Block Pramukh, Deputy Pramukh, Junior Deputy Pramukh in the area panchayats, while in the district panchayats, elections will be held for the posts of District Panchayat President, Vice President.

Like the President, the election is held in single transferable method

Like the Presidential election, this election is held in single transferable method. The District Panchayat President is elected by the District Panchayat members and the Area Panchayat Chief is elected by the Area Panchayat members. On the day of voting, all the members will get ballot papers, which will have the names of the respective candidates. In the voting, first, second, third preference has to be marked in front of these names. After separating the rejected ballot papers in the counting, the first preference ballot papers are counted first. If there are a total of 38 posts in a district panchayat, then the candidate who gets more than half i.e. 20 votes in the first preference is declared the winner. If no one gets that many votes in the counting of first preference, then the last placed candidate is removed and his votes are included in the second preference votes. This process continues until someone gets more than half the votes.

Reservation of District Panchayat Presidents released

After settling the objections on the provisional notification, the Panchayati Raj Department on Wednesday released the final reservation of District Panchayat President posts in 12 districts. There was no change in it. For the first time, the Panchayati Raj Department has implemented the recommendations of a single-member dedicated commission constituted for OBC reservation in panchayats. According to this, reservation for posts from the head of the Gram Panchayat to the District Panchayat was decided. Secretary Panchayati Raj Chandresh Kumar issued a provisional notification on August 1 and sought objections on it. 42 objections came from across the state between August 2 and 5. Most of the objections were from Dehradun, which were resolved by the committee on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Secretary Panchayati Raj released the final reservation. Now the State Election Commission will conduct the elections according to this.
