Eight killed in heavy rains and landslides in Uttarakhand, CM Dhami in constant touch with the administration; expressed condolences

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is in constant touch with the DMs of the concerned districts regarding the damage caused by heavy rains and landslides in Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Tehri, and Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand. The Chief Minister has expressed deep condolences on the death of five people of the same family in Bageshwar and a couple in Chamoli due to the disaster. He has also directed the administration to run the disaster relief work promptly and provide immediate help to the victims. At the same time, eight people are reported missing in these incidents.

Cloud burst in four districts of Uttarakhand

As soon as the information of cloudburst in some areas of Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Tehri and Bageshwar was received, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to the District Magistrates of the concerned districts over the phone and directed to conduct relief and rescue operations at a fast pace. The Chief Minister told the officials that the affected people should be immediately taken to safe places and there should not be any delay. In a high-level meeting of disaster management held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Friday, Chief Minister Dhami directed the officials to provide all basic facilities in the affected areas soon. In case of disruption of road, electricity and drinking water supply, they should be made operational immediately. He received detailed information about the incidents of cloudburst from the District Magistrates of Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Tehri and Bageshwar through virtual medium and directed to further speed up the relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister also inquired about the condition of rain and roads from the District Magistrate Nainital. The Chief Minister also made it clear that the government and administration should remain on alert mode throughout the monsoon season. Whatever necessary resources and facilities are required by the District Magistrates for disaster relief work, they should be made available immediately. Also, it should be ensured that the affected families get compensation as per the prescribed standards soon. P Anshuman, Secretary Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey and Special Secretary Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate were present.
