After the increased tension between India and Pakistan, drone surveillance is being done in sensitive areas of Uttarakhand. Apart from Dehradun, Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Haridwar, 17 drones have been installed by the police department for surveillance in the four Dhams, which are constantly guarding from the sky.
Uttarakhand’s 375 km long border is adjacent to China, due to which the state is considered sensitive. In such a situation, security has been increased on the China border. Apart from this, surveillance is being done with 13 drones in all the four Dhams. Surveillance was already being done in Dehradun with drones. After the Chardham Yatra, drones have also been installed for surveillance in Mussoorie, Rishikesh and Haridwar. This decision has been taken after intelligence agencies expressed apprehensions of possible infiltration and anti-social activities. Uttarakhand shares its border with China and Nepal, and due to the increasing tension with Pakistan, it has become necessary to be extra vigilant in this area. Drone surveillance campaign has been intensified especially in Chamoli and Uttarkashi districts.
Drones become helpful in the security of sensitive areas
According to the police, the main objective of drone surveillance is to keep an immediate eye on any suspicious activity in sensitive areas. With the help of drone cameras, intensive investigation of high mountain areas is being done day and night. While this has reduced the pressure on human resources, on the other hand, the speed of surveillance has become more effective.
Surveillance is being done with high quality drones
The drones being used in Uttarakhand are equipped with high quality high-resolution cameras and are connected to GPS based tracking system. These drones not only record videos and photos, but can also send automatic alerts on suspicious activities. These devices can work effectively even in bad weather and at night.
Both caution and preparation are necessary
No serious infiltration or terrorist activity has been confirmed in Uttarakhand so far, but in view of the Indo-Pak tension, the vigilance of security agencies is extremely important to prevent any potential threat. Steps taken in this direction in Uttarakhand will not only help in averting the current threat, but will also lay a strong foundation for future challenges.
