Types of Dialysis and Dialysis machines

Dialysis Process

Different types of dialysis are required as required by the patient. Therefore the process of dialysis is also different! There are five main types of dialysis!

Types Of Dialysis

There are mainly five types of dialysis, of which the first three types of dialysis are the most used!

  • Hemodialysis
  • Peritoneal dialysis
  • Hemofiltration
  • Hemodiafiltration
  • Intestinal dialysis

  • Hemodialysis is done for the kidney, thus dialysis takes 4 hours, two to three times a week!
  • Hemodialysis is a process that removes urea from the blood, using a man-made membrane (dialyzer)!

Peritoneal dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis is performed in the event of renal failure. In this type of dialysis, the patient’s stomach is used as a dialyzer! A soft tube is inserted inside the stomach of the patient, that’s why it is called peritoneal dialysis!

When the kidney is injured for any reason, the patient is treated as a hemofiltration treatment in the ICU!

Hemodiafiltration is an advanced form of hemo filtration, in which clearance material is added which is able to clean the blood more!

Intestinal dialysis

No machine is used in intestinal dialysis, in which the blood is cleaned through the intestines using microorganisms and soluble fiber along with the consumption of acacia in the patient’s food.

Dialysis machine

  • A dialysis machine can be considered as an artificial kidney! You must have seen the dialysis machine in the above three photos, from which it appears that all three machines are of different ways!
  • One thing common in these three machines is the dialysis filter that is made by humans! This filter is capable of ultra filtration which removes toxic substances like urea and uric acid in the blood!
  • Blood is extracted from the patient’s wench when clean blood is poured through the machine.
  • The price of Dialysis Machine in the Indian market is between 5 lakh to 15 lakh but the price of the importers is around 25 lakh!
  • The quality of dialysis depends on the efficiency of the doctor and the quality of the machine.
