As the President, I consider myself grateful to have received the gift of hospitality from all of you in the courtyard of the Himalayas, Uttarakhand. The President thanked the Governor, the Chief Minister and the people of Uttarakhand for enthusiastically organizing the Abhinandan ceremony.

He appreciated the Central Government and the State Government for these projects. He said that under the well-coordinated guidance of Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmeet Singh and energetic leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttarakhand is on the path of all-round development. The hardworking and talented residents of Uttarakhand have contributed significantly in this journey of development of the state.

The President said that in our tradition, the people living in the region of the Nagadhiraj Himalayas have been considered the descendants of the gods. In this way the brothers and sisters of Uttarakhand are bearers of a divine tradition. I am feeling very happy to be among all of you. From Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi to Sumitranandan Pant, the graceful poet of nature, Uttarakhand’s natural beauty and loving demeanor of its people had mesmerised. We have to move forward on the path of development only while saving this natural beauty.

The President said that Uttarakhand has its sources of river-mothers, which have built and irrigate a large part of Mother India. The Himalayas and Uttarakhand are enshrined in the conscience of the people of India. Our sages have been taking shelter in the caves and caverns of the Himalayas in search of knowledge. It is a popular belief that for the treatment of Laxman ji, Hanuman ji had taken Drona-Mountain of this area along with ‘Sanjeevani Booti’. In this way, Uttarakhand has been a source of well-being both from the point of view of spiritual peace and physical healing.

In the fields of modern medicine and Ayurveda medicine, Uttarakhand is constantly taking forward its traditions and establishing new institutions. There are many famous centers of Naturopathy in Uttarakhand where a large number of people from India and abroad come and get health benefits. Uttarakhand has immense potential for nature tourism and adventure tourism as well as medical tourism. This will also increase employment opportunities among the youth.

The President said that Parvatraj himself, the Himalayas and the brave people of Uttarakhand have also been the guardians of Mother India. Our current CDS General Anil Chauhan ji is the son of Uttarakhand only. India’s first CDS General Bipin Rawat was also a personality of this land. In the 1990s, General Bipin Chandra Joshi served Mother India as the Chief of Army Staff. All the countrymen will always remember the sacrifice of Major Rajesh Singh Adhikari and Major Vivek Gupta, who saved the country by sacrificing their lives in the Kargil war. Both those bravehearts were posthumously awarded the Mahavir Chakra. Indians will always remember Jaswant Singh Rawat as an immortal fighter who was awarded the Mahavir Chakra who laid down his life in the 1962 war. Soon after independence, soldier Diwan Singh, who sacrificed his life while fighting the intruders in Kashmir, was honored with the Mahavir Chakra by a grateful nation.
