Congressmen demonstrated on the streets of Uttarakhand, accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of adopting repressive policies and misusing central institutions.
A large number of Congressmen shouted slogans against the central government near the clock tower in Doon. The police arrested more than 50 Congressmen for brawling with the police and blocking the road.
Allegations of adopting repressive policy against Rahul Gandhi:
On Thursday, Congress workers across the state, including Dehradun, demonstrated, accusing the central government of misusing central agencies and adopting a repressive policy against Rahul Gandhi. However, the Congress leaders did not say anything about the protest that took place after the decision from the Surat court.
Hundreds of workers including former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, former Uttarakhand Congress president Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh, former cabinet ministers Navprabhat, Shurveer Singh Sajwan came out on the road at the state headquarters Dehradun. Around 11 o’clock in the day, a large number of Congressmen gathered at the Congress Bhavan located on Rajpur Road. From where the rally proceeded towards Ghantaghar.
The police stopped the protesters by placing barricades near Dhara Chowki. During this, there was a fierce scuffle between the police and the protesters. The Congressmen tried to move forward by breaking the barricades.
At the same time, sitting on the road, the Congressmen raised slogans against the central government. Police took the protesters into custody for blocking the road. More than 50 Congressmen courted arrest. All of them were released after being taken to the reserve police line.
BJP’s crackdown on freedom of expression:
Addressing the workers, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that this is the biggest atrocity of the Bharatiya Janata Party government on freedom of expression.
Rahul Gandhi discussed only those things which are going on in the country, which are happening in the country’s politics. Harish Rawat said that the case filed in Surat is old, but fearing the huge success of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Bharatiya Janata Party is harassing Rahul Gandhi with a sense of political vendetta.
BJP’s repressive policy threatens democracy:
Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya said that the central government wants to end democracy in the country by misusing the central investigative agencies on the leaders of non-BJP political parties. Democracy is in danger due to the repressive policies of the central government.
