Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss rail services in Uttarakhand. Responding to the Chief Minister’s demand, the Railway Minister stated that Dehradun and Haridwar railway stations would be developed as model railway stations. The old Rishikesh railway station will be completely closed, and trains will operate from the Yoga Nagari railway station. At the Chief Minister’s request, the Railway Minister also agreed to extend the Dehradun-Tanakpur weekly train to three times a week. The Chief Minister requested that the central government bear the entire cost of the Haridwar-Dehradun rail line doubling work. The Railway Minister stated that a decision would be made after testing. The Chief Minister also requested the Railway Minister to consider the possibility of connecting Almora and Someshwar areas with the Tanakpur-Bageshwar rail project and to make provision for a road along with the tunnel. The Chief Minister said that the old railway station of Rishikesh should be completely closed and all the rights of this land should be transferred to the state government. He said that if additional land is required for smooth operation at the Yoga Nagari railway station after the old railway station is closed, the state government will cooperate in this. The Railway Minister gave his in-principle consent to this.
