CM Dhami engaged in reviewing relief and rescue operations as soon as he came from Delhi, said- Water should be drained out from Syanachatti soon

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the disaster and relief rescue operations in the disaster in Tharali after returning from Delhi. He gave instructions to expedite the rehabilitation work of the affected. During this, he also gave instructions to drain out the water from Syanachatti of Uttarkashi as soon as possible. On Saturday, the Chief Minister reached the State Emergency Operations Center and took stock of the arrangements. During this, he said that better arrangements should be made immediately for the people who have become homeless in Tharali and along with this the work of rehabilitation should also be started rapidly. He said that instructions were given to provide relief and essential materials to the affected promptly. He said that all the basic needs including electricity, water, road network should be restored as soon as possible in the Tharali disaster affected area. Special attention should be paid to the quality in the relief material to be distributed to the affected. He praised District Magistrate Chamoli for reaching the spot immediately during the Tharali disaster, promptly providing relief to the affected and for excellent management. He said that similarly, prompt relief and rescue operations should be ensured in other disaster-affected areas with effective coordination. The Chief Minister directed all District Magistrates to be fully prepared in view of the Orange Alert in the state for the next two days and to keep disaster management material equipment etc. at sensitive places.

Instructions to carry out dredging and channelization work in rivers
The Chief Minister directed to carry out dredging and channelization work of all such rivers of the state, on whose banks settlements, towns, cities are located. He said that wherever the water level of the rivers has been affected due to lack of dredging, dredging work should be done as per the standards of disaster. He also asked all the districts to send a report in this regard as soon as possible.

A high-level team of scientists will study
Referring to the incidents of Dharali, Tharali and Syanachatti, the Chief Minister said that there is similarity in them. In such a situation, it is important to find out how much moraine is accumulating in the high Himalayan regions. For this, he also directed to conduct a study by forming a team of scientists from institutions like Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, IIRS, IIT, NRSC. He said that he would also request the central government to conduct such a study in all the Himalayan states, so that its causes can be known.

Send the report to the government by August 25
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan directed the District Magistrates to assess the damage caused by the disaster in Tharali, Dharali and other places of the state and send the report to the government by August 25 at all costs. Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, R Meenakshi Sundaram, Shailesh Bagauli along with all the concerned officers and District Magistrates of Chamoli and Uttarkashi were present in the meeting through virtual medium.
