Scientists of Pantnagar University made antibacterial plastics.



Plastic instruments used in food processing and packaging, including surgical syringes, etc., can get rid of repeated sterilizing due to contamination. Scientists at GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology have achieved 11 years of tireless efforts to produce a plastic that will be antibacterial.

Dr. MGH Zaidi, Professor in the Department of Chemistry of the University and Dr. Rita Goyal, former Head of the Department of Microbiology, said that the surgical syringes, equipment and plastic materials used in food processing have to be sterilized repeatedly due to contamination. is. Scientists from the University of the Rs 36.7 lakh project approved in September 2008 from the Nanotechnology Task Force of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, succeeded in making a plastic that was antibacterial.
When this plastic was poured into water, it was found to be antibacterial for 72 hours. Applied for its patent in the year 2013, which was acquired in February 2020 after various tests. Not only this, this technology has also been recognized in 147 countries of the world under the Patent Cooperation Trity (PCT). This technology will be given to industries. Whatever substance will be made under the MoU in this project will be a joint venture between Pant University and DBT.
Antibacterial plastic
Professor Dr. MGH Zaidi said that first of all, we have selected such plastic materials, which are not harmful in human use and which can cause bio-decomposition. These plastic materials added bacterial perishable nano-particles and combined antibacterial nano-particles into non-toxic plastic materials by liquid carbon dioxide (green chemistry technology).

The nano sublimation derived from it was used to make anti-microbial (antibacterial) plastics. The developed nano-blended plastics will prove to be a boon in the manufacture and preservation of a variety of household and medical products.

Presently antibacterial plastics are manufactured in the presence of toxic organic solvents. Toxic substances are present in the plastic products made by their use, which are harmful to health. Whatever plastic materials and nano particles used in the manufacture of nano sublimation are human friendly. Green solvents have been used without using any type of organic solvents.
