Solid policies have boosted tourism in Uttarakhand. In three years, tourist arrivals reached 234.6 million. The number of tourists has doubled in the last four years compared to previous years. The winter travel initiative increased the number of travelers, making Uttarakhand’s tourism perennial. Local incomes increased, along with government revenues. Every scheme and sector promoted by the Uttarakhand government saw a significant influx of funds, which not only significantly increased the government treasury but also opened up employment opportunities for local people.
Boom seen under CM Dhami’s leadership
The tourism sector is a prime example of this. The Dhami government heavily promoted the Chardham, adventure tourism, the rejuvenation of religious and cultural sites, and the homestay scheme. The results are evident to all. Despite the global pandemic of COVID-19, this number increased to 150 million during the BJP’s Trivendra government (2017-18 to 2021-22). But the real leap was seen under BJP 2.0, i.e., under the leadership of CM Dhami. In just three years (2022-23 to 2024-25), Uttarakhand welcomed 234.6 million tourists. This figure not only marks a new record but also demonstrates that promotion and investment are yielding tangible results, not just a matter of lip service.
The Dhami government’s promotion and investment have been crucial in helping Uttarakhand tourism reach new heights and strengthen the local economy.
