In view of the continuously increasing road accidents in the state, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken a tough stand. He has given instructions to constitute a committee of experts from various departments to make road accident safety rules to effectively stop road accidents. He also directed to start air services from Dehradun to Uttarkashi and Gauchar. Heli services are currently being operated at both these places. The Chief Minister has also given instructions to close liquor shops and bars at the prescribed time.
Many horrific road accidents in the last few days
Many horrific road accidents have taken place in the state in the last few days. Recently, six youths died in a road accident at ONGC Chowk in Dehradun. After this, two youths became victims of road accident in Rishikesh. One person died in an accident caused by a trolley overturning in Asharodi, Dehradun. At the same time, four people died in a road accident in Haridwar. Earlier, 38 people died in a bus accident in Almora district. In view of this, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting with senior officials of the government at the Chief Minister’s residence on Friday. He said that the increase in road accidents is a matter of concern. Special attention should be paid to safety measures to effectively prevent accidents. He directed the police to check with an alcohol meter during night patrolling and take strict action against those driving at high speed. He said that all arrangements should be ensured keeping in mind all aspects related to public safety.
Instructions to start air service for Gauchar and Chinyalisaur
The Chief Minister, while giving instructions to start air service for Gauchar in Chamoli and Chinyalisaur in Uttarkashi, said that the tender and all other formalities should be completed soon for its early operation. Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, Commissioner Garhwal Vinay Shankar Pandey, Additional Director General of Police AP Anshuman and Vice President MDDA Banshidhar Tiwari were present in the meeting.
