The state government is moving forward with strictness to curb spit jihad. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed the officials to take such cases seriously. If sources are to be believed, he has also directed to test for adding stringent provisions to the existing law of the state if needed.
The government can bring a revised ordinance to include new provisions. In line with the instructions of the Chief Minister, Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar has issued guidelines to the Senior Superintendents of Police of all districts to stop such incidents.
Many cases of spit jihad surfaced in the state
Many cases of spit jihad have come to light in the state in the recent past. Incidents of spitting in food items have come to the fore in these. On these increasing incidents, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting with Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli and Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar at the Chief Minister’s residence on Tuesday and directed to take these matters seriously and take appropriate action in this regard. In this sequence, Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar has written a letter to the Senior Superintendents of Police of all the districts and railways and directed them to take appropriate steps to stop the incidents of spitting in food and beverages in commercial institutions like hotels and dhabas.
Cameras will be installed in kitchens
It has been said that 100% verification of the persons working in all hotels and dhabas should be done. Business managers should be encouraged to install CCTV cameras in their kitchens. The help of the intelligence unit should be taken to prevent such incidents in kiosks and rehris. This should also be taken care of during patrolling. As per requirement, surprise inspection of hotels and dhabas should be done with the cooperation of the Food Department. If such activity is found, action should be taken under Section 274 (adulteration of food or drink for sale) of Indian Penal Code and Section 81 of Uttarakhand Police Act (crime on road, street or road causing inconvenience to public). If this act has adverse effect on religious, racial, linguistic etc. basis, then action should be taken under Section 196 (1) (spreading hatred or enmity on caste basis) or 299 (act done to hurt religious sentiments) of Indian Penal Code.
