For the purpose of implementing Uniform Civil Code in the state, there is a preparation to extend the tenure of the committee formed to decide its draft by four months. A proposal has been prepared for this. It is believed that an order related to this will be issued after the Chief Minister’s return to Dehradun. Implementing Uniform Civil Code in the state is a priority of the government. That is why, as soon as he assumed power, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami constituted an expert committee under the chairmanship of Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (Seni) to prepare a draft of the Uniform Civil Code on 27 May 2022.
More than 75 meetings were held
During the tenure of about 15 months of the Expert Committee, more than 75 meetings have been held so far and the committee has received more than 2.35 lakh suggestions. The committee was to submit the draft of the Uniform Civil Code by June this year, but it could not happen. Now the tenure of the committee is ending on September 28. Even after submitting the draft to the government, a lot of work remains to be done. In such a situation, there are preparations to extend the tenure of the committee once again. So far the tenure of the committee has been extended twice. The tenure was earlier extended for six months in November 2022 till May 2023. After this, in May 2023, the tenure of the committee was extended for four months, i.e. till September.
