25 villages in Uttarakhand will now have ‘dry weddings’, with women wearing only three pieces of jewellery. Find out why

Uttarakhand Chakrata News: As decided in a group meeting, sweets and fruits may be served at the Rahini feast, but dry fruits and gifts will not be given. The gift of silver coins will also be prohibited. The motivation behind this social reform movement is to reduce rising inflation and the tendency to show off, as well as to reduce the growing gap between poverty and wealth.

Jaunsar Bawar is once again in the news for its brotherhood and unity. 25 villages here have set an example of unity. Alcohol and fast food will no longer be seen at weddings in these villages. Furthermore, women here will wear only three pieces of jewelry, not piles of gold. Let’s find out what this report says about this constant change in mountain traditions over time.

The people of 25 villages in the Khat Shali region of Jaunsar Bawar, a tribal region in Dehradun district, have launched a social reform movement. Recently, in a group meeting, they made nine important decisions. In the open meeting, it was decided that foreign liquor, beer, and fast food would no longer be served at weddings.
Additionally, women will only be allowed to wear three pieces of jewelry at events: a nose ring, a toongal, and a mangalsutra. Importantly, families violating these rules will not be allowed to attend the events. Furthermore, a fine of one lakh rupees will be imposed on the family.
According to the decision taken in the group meeting, sweets and fruits can be given at the Rahini feast, but dry fruits and gifts will not be given. Giving silver coins as gifts will also be prohibited. Previously, decisions regarding restrictions on women wearing excessive jewelry have been taken in the village panchayats of Kharsi, Manuwa, Gehri, Kandad, etc. of Chakrata tehsil. Under this decision, women can only wear three gold ornaments. The women of these villages are also happy with this decision.
The reason behind this social reform movement is to curb rising inflation and the tendency to show off, as well as to reduce the growing gap between poverty and wealth. Weddings here will no longer be marked by intoxicants, fast food, and women will no longer be seen adorned with jewelry.
